2012 Mount Baldy Tour

By Donald Ratzlaff

The tour was scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 10th and, as the date approached the weather became a factor; rain was forecast for Friday with the snow level predicted to be around  the 4000’ elevation.   The planned Glendora Ridge route has portions near 5000’ so there was a little uncertainty among the anticipated participants.  Never fear, There was a plan B just in case the road was closed.  Well. Saturday morning broke with a bright blue sky, a little chilly, but a beautiful “Model A” Day.  About 18 happy members met at 8:30am at the Panera Bread in Brea ready for the journey up the 57 freeway to the start of the Glendora to Baldy road.  At the beginning of the mountain road we discovered that a bicycle club had also planned a mountain ride that morning.  So it was that we drove our model A’s through their start and finish gates sharing the drive with multiple hard-pumping bicycle riders.  It was a beautiful drive, “the tour of the decade” and we all arrived at the Baldy lodge with nary a problem.  The food and service at the lodge was awesome and all were well fed.  Art and Olive Moore joined us at the lodge and after lunch directed us to their home for a short visit and a look at Art’s garage and Olive’s artistic displays of her “gourd” creations.  A big thank you Art and Olive!   The drive back to Brea took us through Carbon Canyon, another great model A drive.  We finished up at about 3pm with NO MODEL A ISSUES.  A good time was had by all and all deserve a large thank you!
